Did You Know Jordan Wore THESE Sneakers in ‘Space Jam?
When it comes to basketball, Michael Jordan is widely considered the greatest of all time. And while his abilities on the court are widely known and respected, there’s one lesser-known fact about Jordan that you might not be aware of: he wore these iconic blue and red Air Jordan VI sneakers when he appeared in the 1996 film Space Jam, alongside Bugs Bunny and other cartoon characters from Warner Bros. So grab yourself a pair of these retro Jordans and enjoy this look back at a classic movie!
Air Jordan XI (11)
Jordan’s Air Jordans are synonymous with his success on the court, but did you know he also wore them off the court? In 1996, Michael Jordan teamed up with Warner Bros. to create a movie called Space Jam. The plot of the movie centers around an evil alien named Mr. Swackhammer who plans to turn all of Earth’s inhabitants into his slaves – so naturally, he kidnaps most of the Looney Tunes cast and puts them into a basketball game against MJ and his friends.
In the movie, Jordan wore an original pair of Air Jordans: Air Jordan XI (11)s that were colored blue instead of black. That was it for sneakerheads–it was just too good of an opportunity to pass up. A few months after the movie came out, Nike released its own version of the shoe, which became known as Space Jams. However, unlike the Air Jordan XI (11)sworn by MJ in space jam, these shoes were white with royal blue accents and didn’t have 23 stitched onto the back.
Air Jordan XII (12)
In 1996, Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes characters played basketball against each other. The film was called Space Jam. In the movie, Michael wears a pair of Air Jordan XII (12). This is one of the most popular sneakers from Nike. It was also really expensive. They were released in 1995 to celebrate the 12th anniversary of Jordan’s first shoe with Nike. The cost for these shoes ranges anywhere between $200-$600, depending on where you buy them from and how old they are.
However, you can still find them for cheaper prices at sites like eBay or Amazon if you look hard enough. They come in many colors, but black is the most common color because it has always been his favorite.
If you don’t have an extra hundred dollars lying around, there are plenty of ways to wear your space jam gear without spending any money.
Air Jordan XIII (13)
Jordan is known for wearing the Air Jordan XIII (13) during the filming of his movie, Space Jam. The Air Jordan XIII was first introduced to the public in 1997 and designed by Tinker Hatfield. It was a radical departure from all previous Air Jordans, with a new design that included a molded polyurethane upper and rubber sole.
Although these sneakers were not the most popular on the market at the time, they are now one of Nike’s bestselling shoes of all time. has also been endorsed by athletes such as Kobe Bryant and Lebron James.
is still being manufactured today, but no longer in 23 different colors like it once was.
In 2013 it became the fastest-selling shoe ever when it was released, selling more than 500,000 pairs just after release day.
Air Jordan XIV (14)
The Air Jordan XIV was released on January 7th, 1998 and it was the last shoe Michael wore before he retired from the NBA. The design of the XIV was based on an earlier model called the Air Jordan XII. When Michael first tried on the shoe, he knew that it would be a game-changer. The Air Jordan XIV is one of the most beloved shoes in Nike’s history and has been reissued multiple times since its original release.
It also set records for being the fastest-selling shoe ever and sold out within an hour when they were released. In December 2017, the company announced that it would produce remastered versions of the sneakers later this year, making them available to customers again after more than 20 years.
In early 2018, Nike CEO Mark Parker revealed that there are now plans to introduce a Space Jam 2 with new colorways and details inspired by those worn by MJ in the movie. What’s really nice about is that we can build something different, said Parker. We can create something unique for basketball players and for people who love these movies. We want to make sure we get the detail right too, so you see some similarities but not exact copies of what was done before.
Air Jordan XV (15)
The Air Jordan XV is one of the most iconic basketball shoes of all time, but have you ever wondered if it was used for anything other than playing ball? In 1996, Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny teamed up for an epic film called Space Jam.
The movie was a huge success and fans loved seeing their favorite athlete and cartoon character going head to head. One thing that people might not know is that while filming the movie, Michael wore his own pair of Air Jordans! He also wore these sneakers during the 1995-96 NBA season.
The Air Jordan XV has been re-released several times over the years, but many don’t realize that they were originally worn by MJ himself! For example, he wore them during the 1995-1996 NBA season and then again when he played opposite a Looney Tunes cast. It’s so cool to think about how these shoes ended up being featured in such a beloved film as well as on our screens every night!
